Our Custom Jewelry Process at Geneva Jewelry — From Idea to Finished Piece When you choose custom jewelry, you’re not just buying a ring or pendant—you’re creating something personal that should feel exactly right the moment you put it on.
At Geneva Jewelry, custom work is one of our most essential services. Our process is built around clarity, collaboration, and confidence at every stage—so you’re never guessing what comes next, and you’re never rushed into decisions you’re not 100% sure about.
Below is a step-by-step look at how we bring your custom piece to life.
Step 1: In-Store Design Appointment (The Most Important Part) Every custom project starts with an in-store appointment. This is where we sit down together and cover all the details: style, budget, timeline, stone preferences, metal choice, sizing, lifestyle considerations, and the overall look you want.
For us, the design conversation is the most critical stage. If we get the blueprint right, everything that follows becomes smooth, efficient, and exciting.
How to prepare (optional, but highly recommended) Before your appointment, we always encourage you to gather inspiration:
Save photos or videos from social media (Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok, etc.) Screenshot designs you like from bridal jewelry stores Bring examples of what you love—and even what you don’t love The goal isn’t to copy something exactly—it’s to help us understand your taste quickly and accurately.
Don’t have inspiration? No problem. If you’d rather start from scratch, you can. Many clients come in with no photos at all. In that case, we’ll guide you through our in-store collection pieces and personal designs to spark ideas and narrow down what feels like “you.”
Step 2: 3D CAD Design + Renders (Your Idea Becomes a Real Design) Once we’ve nailed down the direction, we move into 3D CAD (computer-aided design). This is where we build your piece digitally in precise detail—proportions, angles, stone placement, setting style, band width, and all the fine elements that make a design feel balanced and wearable.
After that, we send you CAD visuals and renders for review.
What is a “render”? A render is a high-quality, realistic image generated from a 3D CAD model. Think of it like a photo preview of your jewelry before it exists—showing you how the piece will look in metal, how the stones sit, and what the overall shape and presence will feel like.
Why this step matters This is your approval checkpoint. We adjust, refine, and perfect the design here before anything is produced physically. Once you approve the CAD and renders, we move forward with confidence.
Step 3: 3D Printed Resin Model (See It in Person Before We Cast) After CAD approval, we create a physical model using our 3D printer, producing your piece in resin.
This is a significant moment in the process because you get to:
See the design in real life Feel the size and proportions Confirm details like width, height, and overall presence We tell our clients this all the time:
“When we cast, we don’t go back.”
That’s why we take this step seriously. The resin model is a final chance to confirm the design is precisely what you want before we commit to metal.
Step 4: Casting + Finishing (Where the Custom Piece Becomes Real Jewelry) Once the design is confirmed, we move into the casting process, where your custom piece is created in the chosen metal (gold, platinum, etc.).
From there, we go into production and finishing—this is where the craftsmanship really shows:
Cleaning and refining the cast Polishing to a perfect finish Setting stones with precision Final detailing and quality control Typical production timeline In most cases, the casting + finishing stage takes about 1 to 2 weeks, depending on the complexity of the piece and the type/quantity of stones being set.
We don’t rush this stage—because the final result should feel flawless.
The Bottom Line: A Process Built Around Confidence Our custom process is designed so you feel supported and certain at every stage:
